Callands FesitivalWhen: October 1 , 2011

Where: Callands, Virginia

The Annual Callands Festival will be held on Saturday, October 1st, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and there will be music, food, crafts, and more. Please make sure to visit the PHS tent. We will have books, stationery, ornaments, and more for sale.

Civil War-Era Items to be Copied

When: October 15, 2011

Where: The Chatham Train Depot, Chatham, Virginia

On Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the restored Chatham Train Depot, the Pittsylvania Historical Society will collaborate with the Library of Virginia to scan original Civil War items, such as pictures or documents (original letters, certificates, newspaper articles, etc.) that belong to local residents. This Legacy Project will ensure that this history from 150 years ago will be copied and preserved locally in the Pittsylvania Historical Society’s Veterans Museum as well as in the research files of our state archives. Residents are requested to make reservations to have items copied by contacting Mary Catherine Plaster (434-432-8945), and are encouraged to share any historical information that relates to the War or the home front in the 1861-65 period.

Fall PHS Meeting

When: October 17, 2011 at 7:30 PM

Where: 1813 Clerk’s Office (behind Town Hall), Chatham, Virginia

The Fall membership meeting will be October 17, 2011, at 7:30 p.m. at the 1813 Clerk’s Office in Chatham. The speaker will be the Reverend Linwood Cook and the topic will be “Patrick Henry, Lion of Liberty.” The lecture will highlight facts and history concerning Patrick Henry.
